-Unga prices are yet to go down with most brands retailing between 200 shillings to 260 shillings  

 -President William Ruto assured  Kenyans that by this week two kg of Unga will retail at 150 shillings.

Kenyans are still grappling with high prices of unga with most common brands now retailing at shilling 200 and above.

In a spot-check done by Ghetto Radio News,Kariobangi North and Ruaraka  the precious commodity retails at 210 for most brands.

At Royal Supermarket price of Unga goes at sh.198 per two kg Ndovu brand,Soko sh. 205 ,Pembe 203 shillings and Wema 198 shillings.

We are waiting for the cheap unga promised by our government but as you can see it  is not yet in our store. Millers have not supplied our supermarkets. Though we are very optimistic that before the end of the week we shall have received  cheaper unga but for it is not there we can’t get it for now.

Naivas Supermarket    Mathare North along outering road,major brands like Soko,Pembe,Ndovu,210 sales between 200 shillings to 220 shillings.

However,  Ajab floor for bakery retails  at  147  shillings.

Naivas supermarket Umoja Estate  Amaize brand retails at 262 shillings while  Ajab floor sales at 147 shillings.  

Same have been witnessed in Kawangware,Kangemi and other areas.

Ruto Cheap Unga Promise

While speaking in Ukambani President William Ruto assured Kenyans that by this week they will have smile at kitchen as the prize of Unga goes down. The head of state  said that the two kg of Unga will retail at 150 shillings.

By next week, you will begin seeing new prices in maize. The price of unga will go down and we have to ensure that the maize we are importing from other countries does not affect our farmers because they are the ones we depend on here in our country. I am aware the cost of living has risen but on thik, we had agreed that Kenyans must purchase maize flour at better prices.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Corporate Affairs Manager Bernard Osero said the ship, MV Stellina docked at berth 5 to discharge the maize. Osero added that the maize was ordered by various millers.

I don’t know if it is the same maize the government promised. The ship arrived from Mozambique and it is discharging at Grain Bulk Handling Limited (GBHL) terminal at berth 5.
