University lecturers have threatened to down their tools from January 20th if the government fails to honour a Collective Bargaining Agreement signed on October 28 last year.

The lecturers through their union, Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU)claim that the government owes them Ksh. 13.8 Billion without pension.

UASU secretary General Constatine Wasonga says that the lecturers are being treated to double speak by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the Ministry of Education.

“It appears the government has diverted the money and that is why we are being treated to double speak by SRC and the Ministry of Education,” said Dr Wasonga, who was accompanied by other union officials during a press conference in Nairobi.

The strike will paralyse learning in several public institutions which are beginning their academic years this January.
