Uproar as bread prices shoot up

By Jacob Oluoch

Kenyans are set to dig deeper into their pockets after the prices of bread shot up.

Bread which  is a staple on almost all breakfast tables in the country has gone up by Ksh. 5.

The 400grams bread has moved from 50 to 55, while the 600grammes bread has moved from Ksh. 65 to Ksh 70.

Broadways Group of Companies Director Bimal Shah last week stated that the increase in bread prices was occassioned by the rising prices of wheat.

According to Shah, the price of one tonne of wheat has increased by 30 perecent form Ksh. 25,000 per tonne to Ksh. 33,000 per tonne.

Traders who spoke to Ghetto Radio news have expressed their disappointment in the increase citing the harsh economic times.
