Uproar in Kisumu Over Nyong’o’s eviction notice
By Jacob Oluoch
A section of Makasembo residents in Kisumu County have vowed to fight an eviction notice issued to them by the Kisumu County Government in court.
The residents claim that 28 day notice is not enough for them to relocate other areas since they have school going children and running businesses.
“We will face Nyong’o head on and tell him where he is wrong. We are not going to be afraid. We as a people we have our parents here, we have our children here,” cried Brian Oruko a resident.
The residents also say that the Ksh. 96,000 compensation money being given to them is not enough.
“We are going to face them head on. We are not going to joke with them. With Ksh 96,000 where am i going to settle in Kisumu?” Oruko stated.
The residents have also faulted Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o for using President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s name in conducting the unlawful evictions.
“I believe the president is a very sober man and so is Raila Amolo Odinga… Let these people be treated with dignity and if it is moving to court, we will move to court, let him treat people with dignity,” he said.
According to them, if the court process will not work for them, they will hold demonstrations and protests against the evictions.
The residents have been given until 28th February to vacate the houses.
