Vihiga Queens were officially crowned 2022-2023 Women Premier League Champions at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi.
Vihiga who sealed the title after edging out Nakuru Queens 2-1 in Nakuru last week beat Gaspo 2-1.
The team will now represent Kenya in the Cecafa Club Champions League set for July in Uganda.
The Championship will double up as the qualifier of the third edition of the Caf Women’s Champions League slated for the Ivory Coast.
Vihiga represented Cecafa in the Inaugural women’s Competition in 2021 beating Central Bank of Ethiopia 2-1 in Cecafa Zonal Qualifiers to qualify for the first edition of the Women’s Championship which was held in Cairo Egypt.
Despite winning the league last year they did not take part due to Fifa ban imposed on Kenya.
Speaking after the match Vihiga Coach said that he is happy for the title saying that despite the win he will bolster the squad so as to have a strong team for the qualifiers.
Vihiga were awarded Sh1 million in prize money by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Earlier at the same venue, Thika Queens defeated Zetech Saprks 1-0 thanks to Grace Wekesa as Kisumu All Starlets gunned down Trans Nzoia Falcons 6-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu but the win could not spare Kisumu as they were officially relegated to division one league alongside Kangemi Ladies and Kayole Starlets who gave a walk over to third placed Ulinzi Starlets.
At Mumboha Stadium I Vihiga County, Bunyore Starlets scored a penalty in 54th minute through Airin Madalina which was enough to save them from relegation aainst Nakuru City Queens.
Kangemi Ladies who were already releated gave a walk over to Wadadia.
