Nairobi MCAs have clashed over the performance of the Nairobi County Assembly for the last five years, just a day after the House went on recess to pave way for the August 9th General Elections .
Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu has criticized the house for failing to tame corruption, illegal evictions conducted by Nairobi Metropolitan Services and other atrocities committed by the County Government of Nairobi.
According to Kiragu President Uhuru Kenyatta had good intentions with NMS but induced corrupt officers to run it who later collaborated with section of unscrupulous MCAs and looted the entity.
“This assembly displays all colours we had good times and bad times it’s unfortunate that most of us sold out. It’s unfortunate that most of the people in this assembly left their roles and no longer did their oversight. We failed as Assembly to oversight NMS, NMS has been a disaster and it is not a secret that Nairobi is messy, dirty and that NMS has seen plundering, stealing and intimidating people in biblical proportions. I don’t know what we can tell the people of Kariobangi, the people of Ruai, the business people, the bodaboda people the Matatu terminus and generally the people who expected Nairobi to be working. The next assembly must do something about this mess,” Kiragu told Ghetto Radio in an Interview.
Yesterday Mutura applauded the House terming it the best team he has worked with and that they did a tremendously good job to ensure that they steer Nairobi to greater heights.
He specifically appreciated them for having put the government of the day in check.
“We now have three entities, we have to deal with NMS Executive and the Assembly. You know the assembly is the anchor of all those entities, we have worked well with them, we have done well on services and assembly was very keen on oversight,” Mutura noted.
“I shall forever be indebted to you for electing me as the third speaker of this great county. When I assumed office in August 2020, I found a divided house .I am glad I managed to bring together all factions and we have left a united Assembly. Am proud of what we have achieved as a House under my leadership,’’ he added.
