In Summary

  • When P Unit turned down MCSK’s 400 Bob!
  • After complaining to MCSK they were paid 300k.
  • Bon Eye a third of the group affirmed that its hard to make it as an artist.

Bon Eye from the once high-flying Genge group, P Unit has revealed that they turned down 400 shillings from MCSK at the height of their popularity.

The Karee hit maker opined that his parents were against him pursuing music calling it a ‘poor mans office’.

Through an online engagement, Bon Eye affirmed that MCSK is a corrupt body noting their past ill treatment.

An agitated Bon Eye, noted that they were given the logs to establish how their music performed.

From the search, they were the biggest African acts thanks to their song “Karee” which was topping musical charts.

This literally translated to some good money so they thought.

They had globe-trotted the world performing in filled arenas and even won awards.

However, they were showed logs revealing that their musical earnings were 400 shillings by MCSK.

“At that table we were brought a log sheet that showed that we made four hundred f***ng shillings, mia nne, mia nne bro na saa hio hakuna mahali hatujaenda hii dunia” he asserted partly.

Have Background Knowledge

Pissed off, Bon Eye continued that they had to seek the criteria used in  determining the 400 payment.

He further schooled today’s musical newbies to equip themselves with some royalty knowledge which will help them out of such predicaments.

From their findings, it was clear that artistes were being milked dry by these so called royalty bodies.

He further added that they had to supplement their earnings with other ventures so as to stay afloat.

Bon Eye further affirmed that the car he drives today can be mistaken to have come from music which is not the case.

After two weeks of pinning down MCSK with tough questions, P Unit was silenced with 300k.

“Two weeks later, we were called in and we were paid 300 thousand Kenya Shillings, this is without logs, it’s just from nowhere so my quick math told me kila mtu amepewa soo, soo, soo mtulize hizi kelele mko nazo, hii kelele mko nayo itulie” he added partly.

This was a clear indication that something wasn’t right.

Nearly all Kenyan artistes have had a ball to pick with MCSK in relation to disbursement of royalties.

To date, transparency and accountability within the government’s entity, MCSK is like water and oil.
