Former Nairobi County governor Mike Sonko and 16 have been acquitted in ksh 350 million graft case.

Trial magistrate Eunice found that the prosecution did not table sufficient evidence against the former governor and his co-accused.

The magistrate said it was incumbent on the prosecution sufficiently to provide evidence touching on procurement of every motor vehicle and materials in 2018.

“After carefully considering the testimony of six witnesses, the evidence adduced is inadequate to sustain the charges levelled against the accused persons,” Nyutu ruled.

The court consequently acquitted all the accused persons

She  also said;

“The prosecution only managed to call six witnesses before they bungled up their case,” she added against an earlier indication that the case was built around the testimonies of 38 witnesses.

The case which has been in court since 2019 has seen Sonko accused with 16 others of misusing public resources while he served as Nairobi governor.
