Gender activists are this time round changing tactics in their campaign against gender violence in the ongoing 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence Campaign.
Elizabeth Atieno a volunteer at Grace Agenda says that this year they are not only going to focus on the common victims of gender violence but also powerful men and women going through gender violence silently in the society.
Atieno who is also a rape survivor says that there are many women in powerful positions in the society who are going through violence but are suffering silently.
“These people are suffering silently mainly because of the status they hold in the society, they are afraid of what people will say to them and how they will look at them,” said Atieno.
She says that their aim this time is to make them speak about it, empower them and help them forge a way forward.
“We want them to speak out and get them counseled and also show them the way out,” she further explains.
