Why Huruma Slums Residents Are More Prone To Coronavirus

A section of Huruma residents are decrying lack of water in the area despite calls by the government to maintain hygiene following an outbreak of coronavirus.

The residents say they have not had water for quite some time and hand sanitizers have also become so expensive hence exposing them to to the deadly Coronavirus.

Victor Ojoo says it is hard for them to maintain high hygiene with water bought from hawkers since it is scarce and expensive.

“Men, women and children are walking with water jerrycans in search of water. Now tell me, how do you expect these people to keep washing their hands with this scarce commodity?,” posed Ojoo.

Ojoo says that with the low income majority of them earn, it will also be hard for them to afford the hand sanitizers whose prices have more than tripled.

Huruma MCA David Okello also stated that his efforts to have Nairobi water and Sewerage Company to solve the water situation in Huruma have been futile.

Okello stated that the water problem in Huruma ward has also been enhanced by water cartels who are taking advantage of the situation to get business.
