Police have arrested a woman at Pumwani Maternity Hospital accused of conspiring to buy a child from another poor woman from Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in a well orchestrated syndicate.
According to the reports Sheila Adhiambo Aluoch has been barren for years and she had faked preganancy with view to buy a new-born child from her friend Pheobe Achieng who lives in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.
Pumwani Hospital administrator Geoffrey Mosiria says the plan was then botched by Pumwani officials when the man belived to be the boyfriend of Sheila came to look for her at the facility after delivery only to find a different woman.
‘‘Sheila’s husband came in Pumwani but he did not find Sheila and that person who registered as Sheila was Pheobe who was just waiting to sell the baby. This is when our officials raised an alarm.The police thereafter called Sheila and she was nabbed by the police.’’ Mosiria said.
Area DCIO Kiamba Rukunga said that they have launched investigations and once it’s complete all suspects will be arraigned in court.
‘‘Its still early to preempt possible charges lets wait until we finish our probe.’’ Kiamba said.
Adhiambo is currently being held at Shauri Moyo Police Station under OB NUMBER 02/17/7/2019.
