Woman Detained After Appearing In Court Drunk

A Nairobi Traffic Court has detained a woman who showed up in court while drunk.

The woman identified as Sharon Oparanya declined to respond when she was called  by the prosecutor and also refused to plead to the charges leveled against her despite long persuasion by the court

The accused disowned her names but could not produce her identification card she only said she had a copy of the passport which she could not produce before the court.

In reply, a Court Orderly said that Oparanya was drunk and that’s why she was sleeping in court.

 “Your honour, she is drunk and that’s why she is sleeping in court,” the officer said.

The presiding magistrate Martha Nazushi directed her advocate to give her undertaking that she will produce the accused person tommor or deposit the cash bail of twenty thousand failure to which she will be remanded at kilimani police station until tommorow.

According  to the prosecution  the accused  person  faces a charge of driving  under the influence  of alcohol, she was arrested  along kilimani road in Nairobi.
