Woman With Disabled Child Kicked Out In The Cold By Caretaker

A caretaker in Githurai 44 is on the spot for kicking out a woman and her disabled child out of her house.

Mercy Njeri who is a mama mboga says that she was away at her business stall when neighbours alerted her that the caretaker had kicked out her 15 year old child with disability out of the house.

Njeri says that she had had an agreement with the caretaker to clear the rent arrears accrued during Corona time in bits and had only remained with Ksh. 5,000.

“I was at work at my stall when some neighbours alerted me that the caretaker had thrown out my daughter who is a special child… She cannot walk neither can she talk,” narrates Njeri amidst tears.

“I am a single mum and I have been paying my Corona arrears as we had and I have never defaulted,” says Njeri.

Njeri says her efforts to reach out to the area chief to help with the situation has bore no fruits.

Some officers at the Githurai Chief’s camp instead demanded that she bribes them with Ksh. 1000 before they help her.

“I did not find the chief. But the handlers there demanded that we give them ksh. 1000 before they help me,” she says.

“I just want a place to spend the night in with my daughter, because we cannot spend the night in the cold.”
