With just a few days to go before the football edition of the 13th African Games, Accra 2023 kicks off in Ghana, eight (8) national teams in the women’s division are gearing themselves up for the highly-anticipated showdown.

The 13th African Games are expected to be held in Ghana between 8 – 23 March 2024.

This is the second time in history that the games will be decentralized, as three cities in the host country will host the event. The three cities chosen for these functions are Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast

Since Congo hosted the first edition of the African Games (formerly All African Games) in 1965, the competition has grown into a bigger continental multi-sport fiesta.

The African Games

The African Games, owned and organized by the African Union on behalf of its member states, bring together athletes from across the continent every four years, one year before the Olympics.

This prestigious event showcases athletic talent, celebrates African cultural values and heritage, and promotes solidarity, and integration.

Additionally, the Games offer a crucial and effective platform for fostering youth education, gender equality, and social cohesion, all important milestones for fulfilling some of the Agenda 2063 aspirations of The African We Want.

FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Hosts, Ghana and seven other countries that participated in the fourth qualifying rounds of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 will participate in the competition.

Nigeria will play Morocco in the opening game while Ghana takes on Ethiopia on the first game of the following day.

Over the past years that it’s been running, it has become another symbol of Africa’s unique place in sports, particularly football.

The final of the women’s tournament will be played on March 21 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Ghana (Hosts), Ethiopia, Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal, Tanzania.
