Nairobi County Government Workers Union has now vowed to oppose the on-going attempt by the County Government of Nairobi to ditch the AAR Insurance Medical cover and replace it with the National Hospital Insurance Fund.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Nairobi County Government Workers Union Secretary Benson Oliang’a says the move is ill-advised and will see them lose many benefits compared to their earlier AAR Cover.
The move will see them have a reduction of group life cover and that outpatient cover will also reduce drastically exposing their members.
‘‘We oppose it fully because it has no benefits to as, our previous group life cover was at Ksh. 850,000 in the lapsed cover and the NHIF is proposing Ksh. 700,000 which is a massive reduction…out patient was pegged at Ksh. 500,000 and for NHIF the outpatient cover deal is Ksh. 350,000… This is total madness and we cannot allow it,’’ he said.
Oliang’a further pointed poor relationship between NHIF and section of hospitals across the country saying it will hinder service delivery to their members.
‘‘There are hospitals that cannot accept NHIF insurance because of non-payment so how do you expect us to cope with such cover?’’ he stated.
Only 4,897 workers that were not seconded by Nairobi Metropolitan Services are the ones who will be covered under this scheme.
‘‘It will not be easy for them they have curtailed our benefits with this NHIF cover and as a union we shall not sit down and watch our rights being infringed,’’ he added.
