Workers stranded after foreign employer abandons them
Several workers of a construction company in Nairobi’s Westlands area are stranded after their employer allegedly abandoned them without paying them their salaries.
The workers of Rokoh Construction Company claim that their employer who is a foreigner went abroad two months ago and has since cut communication with them.
Rasputin Angelo Ondiege, a Project Manager at Rokoh Construction says that they have tried to reach the boss via calls, emails and even WhatsApp to no success.
“We have tried reaching him via emails but he doesn’t respond to them. He however responds to WhatsApp messages and claims that he is getting to the bank and is sending money yet days and weeks pass without him honouring his promises,” says Ondiege.
Ondiege is appealing to the government and specifically CS Fred Matiang’i to move in and help them get their pays.
“If doctor Fred Matiang’I is listening to me, let him use all his available resources to find this man so that he clears with us because were professionally employed ,” he says.
“All we need are our dues. Let him pay us because we are ready and very willing to leave,” he says.
Clement Otieno another employee also appealed for help saying that they have been unable to pay their bills.
