Ministry of National Treasury and planning is now proposing the mandatory third party insurance on boda boda and Tuktuks to cater for passengers in the cases of accidents.
While presenting the 2022/2023 budget in parliament this afternoon, Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani mentioned that motorcycle and tuk-tuk operators should acquire the insurance to cover their customers.
“ I propose motorcycles to take insurance for passengers,” he said.
The sector contributes to the most number of accidents on our roads and having the third-party insurance cover will be an act of caution.
The CS referred to the budget as the “Mwananchi Budget” but it is raising concerns on whether it should really be dubbed that while it does not look into the welfare of the local people.
Considering the hard economic times being faced currently most people have wondered whether this move will be effective or not.
The motorcycle business which greatly depends on the fuel industry for its operations has been counting losses since the onset of the ongoing oil shortage crisis that has been making headlines.
