The Young Kings from Dandora and Dagoretti Mixed Girls’ emerged as the champions of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nairobi region 4th edition, showcasing their talent and determination in thrilling finals played at the newly-commissioned Dandora Stadium in Nairobi.
In a highly anticipated match witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd, the Young Kings staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Dagoretti Lions 6-1 after initially trailing 1-0.
Goals from Edwin Toto, Joseph Wekesa, and Washington Muga secured a convincing victory for the hosts, much to the delight of their supporters.
Expressing his gratitude to Safaricom for organizing the tournament, Kaswara Okwangla, head coach of the Dandora Young Kings, hailed the competition as a platform for young players to showcase their talents. He emphasized the team’s determination to prepare diligently for the national finals following their triumph in the Nairobi region.
In the girls’ final, Dagoretti Mixed Girls displayed exceptional performance, securing a dominant 6-0 victory over Misericordiae Queens from Makadara. Goals from Cisse Nambuye, Faida Awuor, Patience Kasichana, Ruth Safari, and Volentar Akinyi sealed their ticket to the national finals in Kisumu County next month.
Both the Dandora Young Kings and Dagoretti Mixed Girls’ were awarded a prize of KES. 250,000 and earned the opportunity to represent the Nairobi region in the national finals. The runners-up received KES. 150,000 each.
Individual awards were also presented, with the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer (boys and girls) each receiving a prize of KES. 30,000.
The Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nairobi region tournament featured a total of 311 teams from seventeen sub-counties, highlighting the widespread participation and enthusiasm for football at the grassroots level.
With the Nairobi region tournament concluded, attention now turns to Central Kenya for the next phase of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament. The competition continues to serve as a structured platform for talent identification and youth development in Kenyan football, with a focus on players aged between 16 and 20 years old.
