Youths in Kamkunji constituency in Nairobi County have decided to facelift the Kamukunji grounds to a better recreational facility.
The ground which has a political historical background had been abandoned for quite some time now.
The youths under the umbrella Kamkunji Environment Conservation Champion grou p say they want to give the grounds a facelift better than the Michuki Memorial Park..
“We want to have our own and better park than the John Michuki Memorial Park,” said Josephat Karomi the group’s chairman.
The park which is divided into five parts namely, mental health corner, children’s corner, garden, leisure corner and the pathways has made a great impact in the lives of the residents.
“The main number of children’s death has been reduced and people also come to relieve stress at the mental health corner,” added Josphat.
The main challenge they are currently facing is lack of income generating activities and enough tools to help in sustaining the smooth running of the park.
The vision of the group is to have a better park and hold an event during the World’s environmental day which is held every year on 5th June.
