In Summary
- Ziwani Residents Association chairman disputes demolition claims.
- According to Matolo the Affordable Housing Project initiative will be done at a later date and not in two months time as believed by residents.
The chairman of Ziwani Residents Association, Bob Matolo has put to rest the demolition rumours of the estate which was believed to take place in September of this year.
According to Matolo the Affordable Housing Project initiative by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services and Urban Housing and Renewal Development will be done at a later date and not in two months time as believed by residents.
“Kile tulikubaliana ni kwamba wakati kutakuja kubomolewa kuna mpangilio lazima upitishwe. Mambo ya kubomolewa itakuja lakini baada ya mpangilio.”
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News, Matolo says that he does not understand why someone would spread such news which has since caused unrest amongst the residents.
“Mambo ya September ni porojo. Haikuwa mambo imekuwa discussed na hata ikaafikiwa Kwa mpangilio yoyote. Wale walitokea kuisema hatujaelewa kabisa kwa nini walikuja na mambo kama haya.” Says Matolo.
Tension Among Residents
A state of unrest has since engulfed residents who feel like the claimed time line is too soon.
“Ile kitu inapatia watu wasiwasi sana ni kwamba wako so uncertain about timelines za hii project, without timelines inapatia watu tumbo joto kwa sababu wanafikiria kutabomolewa kesho.”
Ziwani Residents Association chairman therefore calls on the relevant authorities such as the Nairobi County Council and other stakeholders to communicate the proper timelines including all the other necessary information to the residents so as to keep them well informed on the house regeneration project.
“Rumour ikitokea they accept kwa sababu hawajaambiwa timelines kabisa especially na the authorities that matter.” He concluded.
