The prosecution will parade over twenty witnesses to testify against suspected killer cop Ahmed Rashid in March trial
This is after the prosecution on Thursday completed disclosure of witness statements and documentary evidence to the defense team.
Rashid was in April charged with the murder of two teenagers- Jamal Mohammed and Mohammed Dhair Kheri- on March 31, 2017 at Amal Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
He denied the two counts of murder before Justice Diana Kavedza and was released on a Sh200,000 bond.
On Thursday during pre-trial at the High Court in Kibera, prosecution counsel Allan Mulama told Justice Kavedza that the state will avail 25 witnesses to testify during trial and that 12 of them were ready to do so.
The 12 are police officers while the other 13 are civilians out of whom six will be placed under the care of the Witness Protection Agency.
The court set March 14 for the hearing of the first three witnesses, while the next six will give their testimony during a series hearing on March 24.
The last three of the first batch of the 12 witnesses will give their testimony on March 25.
Justice Kavedza told the parties to be prepared for the marathon hearings, saying she expects no adjournments.
“Let the witnesses come when they are prepared. You have enough time between now and March to prepare them. This matter can have its judgment delivered by June if we all cooperate,” the judge said.
