Students of Borabu Technical Training Institute(BTTI) in Nyamira County protested peacefully on Thursday, following increased insecurity incidences that led to three rape cases at the Institution.
“It was around 12.30 pm, we were all asleep and suddenly, I could hear screams coming from my neighbor. I heard someone saying why are you screaming at a police officer. The victims told us they were taken to a certain forest where the incident took place.” one of the student said.

Comrades Want The Government To Step Up
Comrades at the institution, now want the government to ensure justice is served by providing tight security and iinvestigations to be done concerning the three rape incidents.
“There was a student who was doing computer programing in the same class as mine. She was raped last semester and no action was taken.” stated an angry comrade.
According to them, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred.They also claimed that the institution’s infrastructure are of poor quality and needs improvement for security to be restored.
“This place is very insecure at night, there are no security lights, the roads are poorly maintained. Unatembea watu wanakushtua.” added another student.

The head of the institution, Dr.Momanyi Were, told journalists that one of the suspected criminal was already in custody and investigations are ongoing .He now seeks the government to deploy security personnel to ensure security is restored.
Assistant Chief of Isicha, James Mongeri noted that security personnel have began investigations and police have already started to patrol the area.
“Today, officers from Nyaramba and Ekerenyo police station have already began investigations and have assured the head of the institution that patrol will be intensified from now henceforth.”Isicha said
