Maroon FC and Mukuru Combined started Sakaja Super Cup campaign on a winning note as the tournament kicked off at Police SACCO Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday, October 1st, 2023.
At the same time Mukuru:s Alphan Muthoka began his quest for the Golden Boot award by netting four goals to start off early as the top goal scorer of the tournament.
Mukuru Combined fought from a goal down to go on rampage and hammer Creative Hands 6-2 in a “Slum Derby”.
An own goal by Daudi Anami, Muthoka’s four goals and Dennis Aloo goal scored from a set piece were enough for Mukuru to send a stern warning to their rivals in the tournament.
Caleb Abuya and Isaac Mukobi replied for the Mukuru Kwa Reuben based Creative Hands.
However, Muthoka was gifted with the match ball by tournament’s patron who is also the Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for netting four times.
Kenya army side Maroon FC trounced South C United 3-0 to start the tournament on a positive note
Eric Sifa turned the ball into his own net trying to head away a Raymond Omondi curving shot in the 17th minute for Marion’s opening goal.
Brian Omondi soared high to nod the ball home past the South C goalkeeper Michael Omondi to double the scores in the 66th minute.
Kennedy Nderitu put the score beyond doubt after dribbling past Sifa to slot the ball into the net in the 85th minute.
The Nairobi County Assembly Seargent at Arms Steve Mwangi bagged a brace to pip Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) 2-1 in the tournament’s exhibition match which was the tournament’s curtain raiser.
Mwangi shot the county assembly into the lead in the 21 st minute for the civic men have a one goal advantage at halftime.
On resumption, Steve Ayoo levelled the scores for the journalists before Mwangi secured the win for City Hall based team from the spot.
Mwangi converted the penalty awarded after SJAK custodian fouled Brian Yobra in the box.
