Team Kenya had an excellent start at the Billie Jean King Cup held at the Nairobi Club, winning all their matches on day one. Here are the highlights of their victories.

Cynthia Wanjala defeated Mauritius’ Anna Chan Kwai Siong with a score of 2-0, with set scores of 6-3 and 6-1.

Angella Okutoyi delivered a dominant performance against Tejaswini Jessoo of Mauritius, winning 2-0 with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory.

In the doubles match, the Kenyan duo of Roselida Asumwa and Alicia Owegi triumphed over the Mauritian pair of Reese Desaubin and Tejaswini Jessoo with a score of 2-0, winning their sets 6-1, 6-1.

In other matches:

In another Pool B match, second seed Tunisia was defeated by eighth seed Burundi with a score of 2-1.

In Pool A matches, South Africa edged Namibia 3-0, while Zimbabwe defeated Madagascar 3-1.

In Pool C, Nigeria saw off Uganda 3-0, and Botswana overpowered Ghana 2-1.

Kenya is scheduled to take on Tunisia on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. They are seeking the overall title and aiming for promotion from Group Three to Group Two after finishing third in last year’s edition.
