Gospel hip-hop superstar Juliani’s Dandora Community Center, well known to the Dandora community as the Hip Hop City, is facing demolition. The property is located in his hometown, where he was born and bred, the Dandora suburbs.

The center, which was home to talented youths skilled in hip-hop, visual arts, and dance, stands near the Dandora River, hence being affected by the government’s order to demolish buildings in proximity to rivers.

Taking to the sanctuary’s X page, @DandoraHHC, the public announcement read:

“Speechless and sad. I got the news yesterday that our space will be demolished tomorrow; we are 30 meters from the river; we have been in existence for the last 7 years+; kindly put us in prayer.”

Expressing his agony, Juliani penned that he was working on expanding to the neighboring spaces as well as upgrading the facility just before he received the news about the demolitions.

The hip-hop star further expressed his frustrations with the government’s one-day notice before the demolitions commenced, leaving him no room for negotiations.

“Our community is in pain; our artists and kids are left with no home; we are not losing hope,” the X account further stated.

A sect of DHC group

 

The property also hosted Dandora hip-hop city radio, well known to locals as Dhc radio, which had shows running daily.

Juliani, who grabbed the public’s attention in the early 2000s through the legendary radical hip-hop group Ukoo Flani Mau Mau, famous for their rants against political, religious, and social injustices, has promised to not give up fighting for his community.

Dandora HipHop City Brought Down

Juliani, has mourned the loss of Dandora HipHop City after a government bulldozer brought down the storey building on Monday.

“This is not the end but inauma sana! To think that we were working on expanding to the neighbouring spaces and upgrading the facility,” Juliani said in a post on X.
