Nairobi County Assembly has launch probe into the Universal Health Coverage Fund that is domicile at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
In a statement seen by Ghetto Radio News Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto want Sakaja administration to explain how kitty came to existence, by which laws was it created, details of the projects implemented at Mutuini Hospital using the same funds among other issues.
“Hon Speaker, in the statement the Chairperson should inquire into and report on. When was the Universal Health Coverage Fund created and for what purpose. Provide regulations guiding same funds. Details of the same Fund’s Bank Accounts. Provide bank statements for the funds since its inception and details of previous and current signatories.” The statement reads in part.
Ogeto emphasized on  the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public resources, stating that the Assembly has a duty to safeguard these resources. He called for comprehensive information regarding the fund’s creation, regulations governing its operation, bank account details, and signatories’ records since its inception.
“We have an oversight role as the assembly to ensure we protect public resources we are not asking much from health department and that information should be provided. We must know which assembly initiated the so called Universal Health Coverage Fund or it was created through which act.” He told the media.

Meanwhile the statement is already with Health Committee and according to its chairperson first witness will be grilled on Friday.
“We have the statement and it was ratified so the ball is in our court and we will leave no stone unturned.” The committee chairman Maurice Ochieng said.
