- Different African President fail to attend the summit
Uganda’s president Museveni in earlier reports was expected to moderate a session on Tuesday (September 5, 2023)
However Museveni is among the 8 African heads of state who have skipped the event.
Others who have skipped the event includes Presidents Namibia, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Gambia, Mauritania, Nigeria and Zambia
Museveni calls on European Nations to end double-standards
The Ugandan President has been quoted saying that Europe’s failure to meet its climate goals should not be Africa’s problem.
In addition He argued that there were conditions that Western investment in fossil fuels in Africa was possible only for oil and gas that would be sent to Europe.
Museveni Sends Delegates
Museveni has however been represented by Sam Cheptoris (Water and environment) Beatrice Anywar (Environment and State) and Judith Nabakoba (Lands )
Earlier reports by the ministry of foreign affairs had revealed that a total of 23 African Heads of State & Gov’t had confirmed attendance (in writing) at the Africa Climate Summit.
The Summit seeks to launch a new ambition for Africa and invite partnerships with the rest of the world
Furthermore, the Summit will provide a platform to address the intersection of climate change, Africa’s development, and the need for increased global investment in climate action, particularly in Africa.
