Additionally most residents hailing from Kibera have defined SHOFCO as a key advocate for their well-being and livelihoods.
“Since its inception, SHOFCO has greatly transformed the living standards in this community,” said Jonson Wafula, a resident of Mashimoni slums.
“The organization has sent our kids to school, empowered our mothers to start businesses, and now we are glad they are disinfecting the sewer lines to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.”
Government Support
Speaking to Ghetto Radio, exercise supervisor Aggrey Assembo Iddo emphasized the significance of SHOFCO’s work in not only eradicating poverty but also promoting a healthy lifestyle.
However, the organization is calling for government partnership to make their comprehensive plan to improve living conditions within the slums a successful and realistic endeavor.
SHOFCO is also urging slum residents to be responsible in their waste disposal practices to avoid bad odors and sewer line blockages, which hinder their efforts.
The organization believes that community cooperation is essential for the continued success of their initiatives.
