Justice and Legal Affairs Committee has sounded a warning to Nairobi government officers who have been snubbing committee summons because of politics that their days are numbered.

According to Justice and Legal Affairs Committee vice chairperson Hon  Hamisi Maleya they shall not allow executive officers  to obtrusively  engage in politics under their watch.

He says the committee have already issued summons to affected officers and that  Justice and Legal Affairs Committee will ensure they are reprimanded.

“State officers are not supposed to engage in politics. We had a meting that failed to take place because you didn’t appear and the committee realized that some of the staff who are professionals have  turned into politicians ,this goes directly to County Secretary who didn’t appear.Another one  is Mr. Nyamu who became a mobilizer in the on-going UDA polls.’’ Hamisi said.

‘‘We have issued summons to the said officers and this is the last time we are engaging them on this kind of mess…’’ he added.

Conduct of state officers according to article 74 of the Constitution

According to article 74 of the constitution of Kenya stat officers are forbidden to behave in manner that do not bring honour to their office.

1) A State officer shall behave, whether in public and official life, in private life, or in association with other persons, in a manner that avoids–

(a) any conflict between personal interests and public or official duties;
(b) compromising any public or official interest in favour of a personal interest; or
(c) demeaning the office the officer holds.

(2) A person who contravenes clause (1), or Article 76, 77 or 78 (2)–

(a) shall be subject to the applicable disciplinary procedure for the relevant office; and
(b) may, in accordance with the disciplinary procedure referred to in paragraph (a), be dismissed or otherwise removed from office.

(3) A person who has been dismissed or otherwise removed from office for a contravention of the provisions specified in clause (2) is disqualified from holding any other State office.
