The move by SARS has sparked mixed reactions online, with some mocking the tax agency for ‘not allowing the dead rest in peace’, while others say it’s the most appropriate decision following Zahara’s multiple cases of tax evasion when she was alive.

The late singer, popular for her ‘Loliwe’ hit song, died in 2023, on December 11.

Previously fined for failing to appear in court for tax case

In June of 2021, the late singer failed to appear in court for charges related to the non-submission of personal and company income tax returns.

Zahara was found guilty of failing to appear in court in April of the same year.

The Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court issued a warrant of arrest for her on the same day.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the court heard evidence as to why the singer had failed to appear in court, after which the magistrate proceeded with the case.
