Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has retired from international football just three weeks before the Copa America Begins
Cavani, a Uruguay mainstay for the past 16 years, had been selected by Marcelo Bielsa to play in the tournament, which starts on June 20 in the United States.

Cavani Announces Retirement
He announced his farewell from international duty for Uruguay on social media on Thursday.
He departs as one of the greatest footballers produced by the nation.
“They were undoubtedly many precious years, I would have a thousand things to say, tell and remember, but today I want to dedicate myself to this new stage of my career and give everything where I have to be,” He wrote on Instagram.
“Today I decide to take a step aside, but I will always follow you with a beating heart, like when I used to go out on the pitch wearing this beautiful shirt.”

Edinson Cavani Incredible Soccer Journey
The Uruguayan professional footballer began his career playing for Danubio in Montevideo, where he played for two years, before moving to Italian side Palermo in 2007.
In 2010, Cavani signed for Napoli who signed him on an initial loan deal before buying him for a total fee of €17 million.
He helped them win the Coppa Italia in 2012 and established himself as the most dominant striker in Serie A.
Cavani scored 58 goals in 136 matches for Uruguay.
He played at the past four World Cups. His last match with the national team was in Uruguay’s 2-0 victory over Ghana in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup.
Cavani won six Ligue 1 titles and five French Cups with PSG between 2014 and 2020. He scored 200 goals in all competitions for the Parisian club.
