South African based Kenyan comedienne Elsa Majimbo has been recently making rare revelations and the latest one from her is the exact reason as to why she moved out of the country when she was 19 years old.
According to the digital content creator Kenya has a lot of colorism, something that made her relocate to South Africa.
Colorism is discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.
“When I was 19, I moved out of Kenya because there was a lot of colorism. I faced a lot of it when I blew up and even before that there was a lot of comments on ‘oh you’re so dark, look at that tint, oh she’s so ugly, why? Cause she’s dark”
And because of this, she thought that her success would be limited if at all she decided to remain in the country.
“I was like I will never progress in this country with this kind of mentality. I am loyal to one thing, the bag. In the US everyone was like, look at your skin it’s so stunning, it looks like pearls, its shining, oh darling. So why wouldn’t I be paid in dollars.”
When asking herself whether she could sacrifice her life for the country, she answered saying
“No, I am not a freedom fighter, I’m not an activist.”
Recently, Majimbo pointed out several things she does not like including all types of people.
“I don’t like white people, black people, Asian people, I generally just don’t like people. My point is, I do not discriminate, as long as you breathe, I genuinely don’t like people. I don’t like being touched. I don’t like being called unexpectedly, especially by unknown numbers, you are guaranteed that I will not be picking up.”
Adding to her revelation, the comedienne also said that she does not like men.
