The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has today announced the ban on the sale and use of Yoni Pearls known as Vaginal detox products.
The board’s decision come after concerns were raised regarding the safety and quality of these products.

In a cautionary tweet, the board specifically warned Kenyan women against using Yoni pearls for vaginal detoxification, highlighting the potential risks associated with their usage.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board wishes to advice the general public against the use of a product known as Yoni pearls which may also be referred to as vaginal detox pearls,herbal tampons,cleansing pearls or Vaginal pearls,”
the statement read in part.
The board’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. F.M Siyoi, stressed that the products are not registered or authorized for use in Kenya, which is a legal requirement for health products.
“Yoni Pearls“is neither registered nor authorized for use in Kenya as required under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap 244),”
the statement read in part.
How They Work
Yoni Pearls also known as vaginal tea bags, contain a blend of herbs that are claimed to draw out toxins, dead cells, old blood clots, bad bacteria, and mucus from the vagina.

Additionally, they are promoted as a means to tighten the vagina and prevent vaginal dryness and other ailments.
“Their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety or efficacy,”
The board has urged both members of the public and healthcare providers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious health products and technologies to the authorities.
