Veteran Bongo Flava star Bushoke won a 500M case against music streaming platform, Boomplay over the un authorization use of his songs on Friday.
In the case before the Kinondoni Court in Dar es Sallam, Boomplay was charged alongside Michael Mlingwa. The latter is alleged to have taken Bushoke’s songs to the giant music streaming platform.
According to Bushoke, his songs have been on the platform since 2018 and he has never received a dime.

Despite the court’s decision, there’s still room for an appeal though it’s still early to know whether the aggrieved parties will take that route.
Removal Of The Songs From The Platform
Speaking after the landmark ruling, Bushoke’s lawyer revealed that Boomplay was also ordered to remove the songs from their platform.
He further added that they were also compelled to bear the legal fees incurred.
“Ni kweli amepewa hizo na kuna vitu vingine ambavyo mahakama imeamua bali na hicho kiasi ya kwanza ikiwepo hizo nyimbo kutolewa kwenye hilo jukwaa haraka iwezekanazyo baada ya hukumu kutolewa lakini pia wadaiwa wote watatu waliuokuwa kwenye kesi wanatakiwa kumlipa hiyo fidia lakini pia gharama za uendeshaji wa hiyo kesi” he asserted partly.
He went ahead and disclosed that the case had lasted for about one year and a half before its determination. This was due to the complexity of the matter.
Bushoke’s legal mind further clarified that his client’s social media accounts were hacked.
This was also a matter of concern that arose from Boomplay affirming that Bushoke used his accounts to promote the usage of his songs on Boomplay.

The said abnormality was also pointed out by rapper, Wakazi who faulted the court’s verdict on social media. Wakazi wondered why Bushoke would be suing Boomplay while his social accounts have been promoting the same songs through the same platform.
