  • Clinical officers strike remain unresolved
  • Medical interns biggest losers in Doctor-Government deal

A day after a deal with government that saw doctors end 56 day strike, Kenya Clinical officers have maintained that their strike is unshakeable and they will solder on until the Ministry of Health and Council of Governors heed to their demands.

They say the union will continue staging protests and labor parades across the Country.

“We have our colleagues who have really suffered after contracting infectious diseases this is in line of duty like one of our comrades in Kajiado county but could not afford health care that he himself provide this is uncalled for and the government must step to stop this mess.”  Peter Wachira the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers said.

Clinical officers Demand

They demand enhanced career progression scheme, posting of clinical officers interns enhance grading system and implementation of their Collective bargaining agreement.

Doctors Unresolved Demand

Meanwhile the issue of interns stipends  among doctors remain unresolved  and was left to the court.

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) signed a return-to-work formula yesterday ending the 56 day strike.

“Yesterday, we had a negotiation with the Council of Governors, and then we proceeded to have a whole night’s negotiation with the Ministry of Health. We had a very long meeting today with our National Advisory Council, that is the highest decision making organ, and they endorsed that we sign this particular return-to-work formula today for the doctors to resume work within 24 hours from now. And that means that the strike that began on March 13, 2024 has been called off,” he said.

“The government has there are different persons in office and that we need to believe in them, that they’re not conmen, and therefore we have decided that despite having said that we will not go home with promissory notes, we have decided to take the promise for the last time.” He added.
