Mathare Human Rights Defender Benna Buluma famously known as Mama Victor has died.
She died early on Wednesday after she drowned in the raging floods wreaking havoc in Nairobi.
She together with her other relatives died after being trapped in her house in Mathare.

As leader of the Mothers of Victims and Survivors Network, Mama Victor dedicated herself to advocating for justice and accountability, particularly in cases of violence and oppression by the police.
The raging floods have forced residents to seek refuge on rooftops in Mathare.

Videos circulating on social media depict harrowing scenes of people stranded on rooftops, awaiting rescue amid the rising waters.

Meanwhile, a bridge in Kiambiu was swept away earlier on Wednesday due to the floods.
SAKAJA INTERVENES
Elsewhere, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has responded to the crisis, calling for the immediate evacuation of affected families to temporary county shelters.
“Today we intend to evacuate 3,000 people to some shelter centers. Many of the most vulnerable people within the communities that we spoke to have received vital food assistance,” He said.
“The Red Cross together with our Gender department is on the ground to protect children and to deliver safe water, nutrition and health services and supplies,”

Additionally, he has announced the deployment of additional “Green Army” workers tasked with unclogging drainage systems across all 17 sub-counties in Nairobi, aiming to mitigate the impact of the ongoing floods.
