President William Ruto has today announced a significant drop in fertilizer prices.

Addressing the nation from State House Nairobi, the head of state revealed that the price of fertilizer would now be costing 2,500 shillings from 3500 per bag.

President Ruto emphasized that this move is a crucial intervention by the government to make essential agricultural inputs more accessible and affordable to farmers across the country.

“We shall begin to immediately bring down the price of fertilizer from 3500 shillings to 2500 shillings per 50 kg bag beginning yesterday, yesterday alone 34,000 bags of subsidized fertilizer were sold to our farmers, “

he said.

He said the government is aiming to produce 61 million bags of maize annually until the year 2027, this projection comes as an assurance of the government’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s food security and reducing reliance on imports.

“The government is also appealing to farmers to redouble the use of fertilizer per acre to increase agricultural production. Data shows that if you re double the fertilizer per acre you will get more yield from between 20 and 25 bags per acre,”

Ruto intimated that the government estimated a yield of 44 million bags of maize this season hence surpassing last year’s production of 32 million bags.

He attributed this success to favorable weather conditions that resulted in adequate rainfall, coupled with the patriotic efforts of Kenyan farmers who planted an increased amount of maize crops.
