A family in Kakamega has opened up about a failed vasectomy process that saw them get a fourth unplanned child.
Medclay says that he underwent vasectomy last year as a form of family planning only for his wife to get pregnant after the procedure.
After the procedure Medclay says that the doctor gave him a three month window for the procedure to be effective.
“The doctor told us that we will be safe after 20 ejaculations or after three months. We were safe until October,” said Medcaly.
During the time he says his wife was on family planning pills to stop her from getting pregnant.
Unfortunately immediately after his wife stopped taking pills, she got pregnant, an incident that shocked them a lot.
“When November came, I realized that my wife had not had her periods. I asked her why she had not had her periods, she said maybe they are irregular.

“When it got to December, we realized that it was four months since she had her last period. So we decided to have a pregnancy test. The test revealed that she was pregnant. It was a shock to us. We were stressed because my wife had had three C sections,” he said.
Upon visiting a doctor, they were told that there are two possibilities, either the vasectomy failed or maybe there were sperms left after the procedure.
“When we went to the doctor, the doctor explained that there are two possibilities, first, that there are some sperms that remained when the procedure was being done or maybe the process failed,” he said.
Medclay’s wife Beryle says that her husband decided to go for vasectomy after he saw how the other family planning methods were affecting her.
She says that it is trust and closeness with the husband that did not bring any doubt in their marriage.
“My husband and I are very close. The family planning methods were affecting me because of the periods and stuff.
“We had our fears, we even thought that it will affected our sexual life but actually, our sexual life even got better.”
