Nairobi County Government will now use special unit to evacuate those who are affected by the expected Elnino rains.
According to Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja the county have invested heavily on human resource and capacity to ensure the much expected Elnino rains do not ruin Nairobi.
“We are very alert and I together with my team have mobilized every resources we can to ensure the effects of Elnino do not damage or kill our people..we have special unit that will do evacuation whenever needed.We shall be rolling out emergency numbers and we have also marked hot spots.This we shall be sharing with Nairobians so that they can know but again it will be a multi-agency approach.” Sakaja said.
He has also directed the planning department to ensure  building structures on top of drainages are all cleared before the starting of the rains.
“I want to direct planning and enforcement officers to ensure we don’t have those structures on top of trenches and drainages hata kama.ni ya mdosi gani ama mhesh yupi ondoeni kabisa,” Sakaja added.

Flood Prone areas

Meanwhile Mathare,Kibra ,Langata and section of Dandora have a history of serious floods with residents now calling on the county to ensure they senticise residents on disaster mitigation.
“It’s a challenge floods has been a problem and the county should do much in creating awareness and preparedness in terms disasters management.” Mathare resident said.
