Kenya Sevens and Kenya Lionesses were dealt a big blow on Friday evening after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) pulled out the two national rugby teams from the 2023 Dubai Invitational Sevens tournament set to kick off on Friday.

The union issued a late statement on Thursday stating that the teams will not travel as planned due to logistical challenges.

The recent development is a major blow to players who have been hard at work putting the final touches on their preparations ahead of the showdown on Saturday

‘’We regret to inform you that the Kenya Sevens men and women national squads who will not be able to honor their fixtures at the 2023 Dubai 7s.

The teams were slated to play in the International Invitational Category in Dubai.

Unfortunately, logistical challenges have negatively impacted their travel itinerary, rendering the trip to Dubai impossible at this point in time.’’ Read The Statement

What The Teams will miss

Shujaa was assigned to Pool C in the Men’s International Invitation Category, competing alongside Speranza 22, R10C Selects, and Wailers.

Their pool stage was set to begin at 2:40 pm EAT on Friday, December 1, against R1OC Selects.

Following that, they would proceed with a match against Wailers at 2:20 pm on Saturday, December 2, concluding their pool stage with a clash against Speranza 22 at 5:00 pm on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Lionesses found themselves in Pool B, facing off against Ireland Invitational, USA Falcons, Rhino Stompers, and French Militaire Sevens.

Their campaign was set to initiate at 5:40 pm on Friday, December 1, against Ireland Invitational. Subsequently, they would take on the Rhino Stompers at 7:20 pm on the same day, followed by a match against French Militaire Sevens at 3:20 pm on Saturday.

They would wrap up their pool stage with a game against the USA Falcons at 7:00 pm on the same day.
