Ugandan Athlete based in Kenya Rebecca Cheptegei, succumbed on Thursday morning at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret City, after she sustained burned injury by her alleged boyfriend on Sunday at her home in Kinyoro, Trans Nzoia county.
According to Dr Owen Menach, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital acting Director, the 33 year old athlete died last night after all her organs failed to function.
“It is true that we lost our sister this morning at around 5.00am,” Dr. Sabila said.

Cheptegei Died As A Result Of Organ Failure
Before her demise, the middle aged athlete was receiving treatment while admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The patient had 80% burns as a result of open flames that caught her body after her alleged boyfriend Duncan poured 5 litre petrol jerrycan due to reasons unknown.
Speaking at the Nairobi City Marathon Launch yesterday at the Eka hotel ion Nairobi county, the Public Service of sports Peter Tum had announced that the Kenyan government had already made arrangements to airlift Cheptegei to Nairobi for a better specialized treatment.
Unfortunately this did not come to pass.

Kenya Sports Officials Condemn The Act
Sports officials led by the Athletics president Jack Tuwei condemned the act saying that life is precious and must be respected.
Cheptegei had also participated in the previous Olympic games at France where she participated in the full marathon race representing Uganda.
In addition to that, the athlete also had the opportunity to participate in the 2021 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai Thailand winning a gold medal.
