Kenyan rapper Domani Munga who is one-third of the hip-hop group Wakadinali, has come out to explain how he came up with the hook for one of their biggest hits of 2023 just from a random on–stage experience.
While speaking on the Mic Cheque Podcast, Domani who is arguably the King of Hooks in the rap game today, says that they had unknowingly whisked off a sponsor who wanted to join them on stage with this particular situation setting the line ‘Keep distance’ in context.
“Ilikuwa in the moment Kuna fala flani alikuwa amekuja kutusumbua kwa stage tukamchuja hatukuwa tunajua ni sponyo Sasa hao wasee wakatuchapia tumechuja sponyo.”

As the trio was onto some serious business with their performance, they could not let the guy on stage which in turn resulted to some commotion.
“Lakini sasa ilikuwa masaa ya kazi yeye anataka kuingia stage kuruka ruka na sisi si tukamchuja akaenda akacomplain. Tukamwambia and let that be a lesson ‘Hii T-shirt ni ya white, keep distance’,“ says Domani.
Group always Approves his Hooks
When asked if there has ever been an instance where the rest of the group members have ever rejected his hooks, he says that each of their lyrics are a masterpiece done with devotion hence none of them has ever had to re-write.
“The guys I roll with are blind to what I do hakuna kubishana na hatujawai re-write hook sisi hata mistari za wasee sidhani wanarudianga kuandika. Kila msee amejiweka fiti, whatever you’re doing ikue tu sawa ju ni wewe unaji market.”

While defending that he never raps offbeat, Domani said that his level of art is unbeaten and that’s why he is identified as the ‘King of Hooks’.
“Thats why I’m number one…Mi siifanyi vile nyi mnaifanya ati nikue kwa beat, niko na nyinyi ndani ya hiohio beat lakini kwanza nawaonyesha hata hio beat inaeza tulia kiasi.Level of art niko nayo kwa hio shughuli yaani sitegemei hio beat lakini bado itakushika.”
