The tournament  was and will be happening at the Nairobi club. They started on Monday and might be happening for the whole of this week following the schedule given.

An opening ceremony was held at the venue and it also included cheque presentation. The cs issued 14.1 million Kenyan shillings for the event.

Most tournaments have been happening in Europe and according to the cs, there was a lot of bulk in finances taking the players to Europe.

The event was presided over by CS Ababu na Mwamba.12 countries will be competing in this elite event. Kenya will be hosting the event for the second year in a row.

Team Kenya recorded three out of three victories on day one of the Billie Jean King Cup held at the Nairobi Club.

First on the center court was youngster Cynthia Wanjala who saw off Mauritius Anna Chan Kwai Siong 2-0 (6-3,6-1).

Tennis Star Angella Okutoyi followed up with a two love (2-0) win with set scores of 6-0,6-0 over Tejaswini Jessooof Mauritius.

The Kenyan duet of Roselida Asumwa and Alicia Owegi signed off the day by beating Mauritius’ duo of Reese Desaubin and Tejaswini Jessoo two sets to zero (6-1, 6-1) in the doubles.

Angella Okutoyi started the Billie Jean King Cup 2024 in style. It only took her 40 minutes to dismantle Mauritius’ Tejaswini Jesoo 6-0,6-0.

“That game went really fast.She played really well,”Jesoo said afterwards.
