Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has accused land grabbers of being behind the fire that razed down Toi market rendering thousands jobless.
While addressing the traders in Kibra Constituency today, Raila asked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to gazzet Toi market as a public land to keep off the land grabbers.
According to Raila landgrabbers have been thirsting for Toi Market land since 1996 when he was the area MP.
“This was not the first, second third nor fourth time for Toi market to be burnt down. It is the 5th time the first time was in 1996 when I was area Member of Parliament then. That is the time they had planned grab it but I opposed it and since then, I have been there always saving the market,” he said.

County to reconstruct market
The Azimio Leader who donated Ksh. 1 million to the affected traders also stated that the market should be reconstructed using county’s money.
“Today I met our Governor Sakaja and told him to gazette Toi market as a public land belonging to Nairobi county then to be constructed with county’s money. I have also donated 1 million to traders who were affected but I want to say this is going to be the last time of Toi market being burnt,” he added.
Raila was accompanied by Kibera Member of Parliament Mwalimu Peter Orero, Nairobi county speaker Ken Ngondi, a dozen of Azimio MCA’s and 2027 Seme Constituency hopeful Majimaji Julius Owino.
