Jamaican singer Vivienne Tanya Stephenson popularly known as Tanya Stephens has washed off her hands from performing at the iconic Reggae Sumfest citing mistreatment from the officials.

According to the veteran reggae singer, her performance this year on Saturday night, July 22 was her last showpiece.

Reduced Performance Time


Taking to her Instagram,an agitated Tanya revealed that they had agreed with the event’s officials for a 45 minute performance set.

Despite rehearsing rigorously for a week with her band,her time was slashed by 15 minutes bringing her set to 30 minutes thereby having a negative effect to her band.

“I want to big up the musicians, the singers, the dancers for improvising and doing what they love and are good at regardless of such a major change…I made a joke about the big clock in front of me,it didn’t affect me as much as i joked that it did but me can imagine how it affected other people… Saturday night was the last time I’m doing that show” She stated.

The It’s a pity singer further revealed that she’s always unwilling to work with local promoters due to lack of professionalism and technical support.

“When we negotiate commercial activity, the only thing people think about is remuneration package and the reason why i usually feel uncomfortable and I’m reluctant to accept work coming to me from local promoters is mostly because of everything else:the lack of manners and the unwillingness to provide technical support” she explained.

Tanya further had to source for an Airbnb because the six rooms she had been allocated couldn’t accommodate her whole band.

Nonetheless, the singer gave out an outstanding performance to the hundreds of reggae lovers at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay.

Reggae Sumfest was founded in 1993 and takes place every year in Montego Bay in celebration of Jamaican culture and music.
