Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has proposed banning of pregnant teenagers from continuing with their education as a way to deter the growing trend in the Country.

In an interview with Journalists at his home, he advocated for the creation of a law that would stop the pregnant girls from resuming classes saying this move would help curb the rising issue.

“We can say that once pregnant schools girls are not allowed in school and that will be the end of her education that will act as a deterrent for those who may be tempted to get pregnant, “He said.

He further cited the St Aquinas Chesikaki secondary school case in Mt Elgon  where 54 girls were found pregnant.

Ironically this call for action by the Governor comes two years after a woman claimed to be pregnant by him went to court to compel him to accept responsibility for the unborn child.

“Pending hearing and determination of the petition, Lusaka be ordered to support the unborn child by making a lump sum payment of Sh 25 million or any other reasonable amount in the circumstances which should meet the direct and indirect needs of the unborn child and after its birth,”Part of the Court papers read.

Ironically this call for action by the Governor comes two years after a woman claimed to be pregnant by him went to court to compel him to accept responsibility for the unborn child.

“He has been engaging the lady to address her concerns and once the baby is born, he will deal with the other issues that will arise. They have agreed for the speaker to provide pre-birth maintenance, give her accommodation and other expenses relating to prenatal care,” Lusaka’s lawyer Peter Wanyama told the court.
