“If you can hear your neighbor that’s not an apartment you are in a flat, tusidanganyane!”

she said

Flats are often associated with lower-middle-class accommodations, while apartments tend to house upper and higher-class residents.

A Flat residence is generally occupied by low and middle-class people, whereas the upper and higher class occupies an apartment.

Kwamboka’s Experiences

The conversation was sparked by her co-host Chito, who asked whether she had ever experienced the common occurrence of hearing her neighbors in close quarters.

She divulged her experiences living in a place where the sounds of her neighbor’s daily activities were audible within her own space.

She recounted instances of being awakened at 3 AM by her neighbor’s late night bathroom trips that left her wondering what exactly her neighbor was doing at that time.

“If you can hear what your neighbor is doing …did I tell you about my 3 am neighbor?…every 3 am naskia makelele kidogo halafu naskia amepiga steps ameenda kwa toilet…every 3 in the morning …hiyo ni nini anafanya?,”

Kwamboka humorously said.

A flat typically refers to a single-story accommodation, while an apartment often denotes a multi-storied living space.

An apartment is a self-contained housing unit (a type of residential real estate) that occupies part of a building, generally on a single floor, whereas a flat is a single residential unit on a single floor.
